How come my Opera doesn't work?

I've recently installed Opera 9

And I really liked it... the problem is... is says that:

"You tried to access the address http://portal.opera.com/, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.

Make sure your Internet connection..."

I tried all of those and even put Opera 9 on the list of programs excepted in the fire walls

WHY? is it not working...

I'am currently using Mozilla Firefox... so why does mozilla work but opera does not? my antivirus pograms are kaspersky AV and AVG-antispyware

I'am using Windows XP professional

use internet explorer 6 or 7 and type cnet in your search bar (not your address bar) and then go to cnet downloads. once there, on the left side you should see a list of options, pick browsers. Then just scroll through all the browsers listed until you find what your looking for. Firefox should let you do the same thing but there are times when your trying to download programs they might require IE6 or 7.
Reinstall Opera.... Have you tried this?
